It is hard to believe that we are about to say goodbye to summer. As usual we are sending it off in grand style with Telluride Brews and Blues. It is a little cooler outside and the kids are back in school, yet there is some excitement in the air. It has been a crazy summer, but the most notable moments for me was when my 9 yr old son started playing air guitar. We recently have relaxed a little as far as the computer goes and even set up his own Pandora station. Not sure if this was a mistake, but it seems to be working out. The “big” computer is in the garage- I mean-man(boy) cave. This is where I stumbled many times this summer onto boys listening to AC/DC-Wide Spread Panic-even Guns and Roses (I am so not kidding) playing air guitar. I always wondered when/how this phenomenon got started. He and his friends want to start a band-oh joy! It turns out I have an aspiring drummer.

It was even more of a shocker when my son approached me before bed one night, about a month ago-with his best manners. “ Um Mom- I know you don’t believe in kids staying up late, but I was wondering if I could go see Gov’t Mule during Blues and Brews, just for an hour…please, please Mom!” My first thought was, “You have heard Gov’t Mule?” hmmm. Against my better judgement I said okay- for an hour. I asked my husband about it, and he just laughed. Just like that, it turns out that we are no longer going to the Blues and Brews Festival with two kids wanting to just play in the awesome kids area, we are going to LISTEN to some music!
Even more of a shocker- I overheard my son and his friend Rowen talking about the fact that Warren Haynes would be playing on stage with Phil Lesh. Okay- I know he knows who Phil Lesh is (thanks to his Dad), but Warren Haynes? Really? His music education is far exceeding his school education, not sure if this is a good thing. We are really looking forward to Blues and Brews this year through the eyes of our son and his friend. This was so unexpected and welcome. Stay tuned to hear about the adventures of Patrick and Rowen, Telluride Blues and Brews 2012.
