We recently headed up to Cerro Summit and had a great afternoon sledding with friends. To get there, take 50 East towards Gunnison. At the top of Cerro Summit, turn right down a hill. You will see a parking area along the bottom of the hill. When we arrived, you could see kids of all ages and adults scattered across the hill. Even kids that were barely old enough to walk were giggling and sledding down the hill.
Snowboarders, skiers and tubers are welcome. Snowmobiles are not allowed, which makes Cerro a perfect and safe place for some serious sledding! If you have access to a four wheeler and a trailer, bring it up. You can tow your sledders to the top of the bunny hill or to the top of the “blue square” more dangerous hill seen in the below picture. We used our Suburban and took tubers up with the back hatch open.
Pack plenty of water, a propane stove to keep the hot chocolate warm, wood for the fire pit, extra socks and gloves. We spent three and a half hours and the kids didn’t want to leave!
