Here’s a fun thing to do this summer with your kids! Sunflowers are incredibly easy to grow and beautiful, so why not grow a sunflower house?
Some of the lower elevations in our region provide the perfect climate for sunflowers. Here is a great resource for how to grow a sunflower house. Basically, stake out the area where the house will go, also noting where the door will be. Then grow the seeds as you normally would, giving the plants plenty of fertilizer and water throughout the summer. When they get tall enough, gently tie the tops and draw them in towards the center. That’s it!
The time to plant sunflower seeds is mid spring, which is now! Here is more information on how to do it, including information on the different types of seeds. Choose one of the tallest varieties of seeds, of course!
