Two Local Wines to Try

This weekend, I tried two excellent local wines, thanks to my mother in law and the fact that she had a birthday.

Colorado Wine

The wine on the right is a fruit wine from Colorado Cellars in Palisade, made with blueberries.  Fruit wine isn’t normally on my radar when I am looking for wine, but I am so glad I tried it because it is tasty! It is sweet, in a delicate way. They also have Plum, Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Chokecherry, Peach, Pomegranate, and Raspberry Fruit Wines, all made with local ingredients. They have a pretty extensive list of wines; you can see all the types here.

Garrett Estate Cellars is another local, family owned winery based out of Olathe. Garrett Estates has four varieties of whites (Riseling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay & Gewurztraminer) and three varieties of red (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir). I tried the Riesling, and trust me that this is an excellent wine!

There are TONS of great local wineries, as you probably know! Here is a great map of Delta & Montrose County Wineries. I know it is only early February, but I am already planning a trip this summer to go visit some of these wineries. I can’t believe I’ve lived here for 8 years and have never done this tour. Luckily though, these wines are carried in local liquor stores, so you don’t need to visit the wineries to buy them.
