“When your child is diagnosed with a disability, it can be the most terrifying, disheartening moment of your life. In the span of a few sentences, your reality shifts to a realm you never would have chosen or imagined for your family. The journey can take parents through the most devastating kinds of darkness—doubt, fear, anxiety, judgment– but even here we rarely give up. We advocate. We push. We strive and fight to give our child what others take for granted. This video poignantly captures the essence of what it’s like to be a parent starting out on this long, hard road. What we would tell ourselves looking back is almost universally a message of hope and strength and comfort. And sometimes that’s what we most need to hear.”

She created San Juan Parent because she wanted to find fun activities for families in the San Juan Mountain Region that would tire her kids out and make them go to bed at a decent hour. She has been banging away on computers for longer than she can remember and freelances at various tech jobs. She considers herself extremely lucky to have such awesome friends and family who are willing to let SJP feature their stories on the interwebs.
